Peru State College
Acornmail/Student Network - Acceptable Use Policy

(as of August 2005)

Peru State College (PSC) encourages students to use email and the campus computer facilities provided for the purposes of academic and scholarly work. Personal and private is allowed; however, users are cautioned about using their Acornmail email accounts with non-academic e-mail.

Use of PSC computing resources and facilities is a privilege and requires that users act in compliance with PSC’s Acceptable Use Policy. Users must respect the integrity of computing resources and facilities, respect the rights of other users, and comply with all relevant laws and policies (i.e. local, state, and federal policies). PSC reserves the right to limit, restrict and/or deny computing privileges and access to its information resources to those who violate the Acceptable Use Policy. Use is a privilege and not a right, and must be treated as such by all users.

Unacceptable use of the PSC computer resources and facilities may result in denying, restricting or limiting the use of those resources. Unacceptable use include, but are not limited to: any use which violates U.S. or state laws, including copyright laws; interfering with, harassing, or disrupting other users; making unauthorized entry into this or other computer or communication systems; initiating or encouraging the promulgation of chain letters, spam mail and other types of broadcast messages; subverting or obstructing a computer network by introducing a virus; supplying false or misleading information to access computer or network systems; port scanning; network sniffing; attempting to gain unauthorized access to data, computers, or networks; making copies of licensed software or other copyrighted material; sending crippling numbers of files or traffic across the network; participating in harassment, forgery, pornography, obscenity, pyramid schemes, or sound recording piracy; extensive use for private or personal business; or profit enterprises.

By using the Acornmail e-mail system, and/or using computers provided by PSC, you agree to these guidelines, with the understanding that failure to abide by these policies may result in revocation of your privileges and/or network access.
